Project
North West Infrastructure (formerly the North West Iron Ore Alliance) is an incorporated joint venture company which represents the interests of its three shareholder companies: Atlas Iron; Brockman Mining; and FerrAus.
North West Infrastructure (NWI) is developing a port facility capable of annually exporting 50 million tonnes of iron ore from the South-West Creek location in the Inner Harbour at Port Hedland, Western Australia. The WA State Government has made this 50 Mtpa allocation to support the development plans of emerging iron ore miners in the Pilbara region.
Achievements
Considerable development work has been successfully undertaken to date, including the completion of a Pre-Feasibility Study in 2009 and Definitive Engineering Study in 2011. NWI is currently focused on studies supporting project construction and finalising relevant legal and commercial arrangements.
A Native Title and Heritage agreement has been executed with the traditional land owners. Extensive heritage, environmental and geotechnical surveys have taken place since the execution of these agreements.
On 2 April 2012 the Minister for Environment; Water approved NWI Environmental referral number 1419.
Community
NWI has been active in the Port Hedland community for some time through supporting voluntary community groups and assisting the socially disadvantaged.
In addition, NWI is a participant of the Port Hedland Industries Council which is working to minimise industrial impacts on the Port Hedland community and environment, Port Hedland Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and the Association of Mining and Exploration Companies.
