The Hon Ian Campbell
Chairman - North West Iron Ore Alliance
Ian Campbell was appointed Chairman of the North West Iron Ore Alliance in September 2009. Prior to taking up the appointment he held senior ministerial positions within the Howard Government. Mr Campbell has extensive experience in the development of major resource projects and related infrastructure. As a Minister in the Federal Department of Transport, he was responsible for the multi-billion-dollar AusLink Infrastructure Fund and as the Federal Environment Minister, he led the approvals process for Fortescue Metals Group's Cloud Break iron ore project, the expansion of the Burrup LNG plant and the first stage of the Gorgon LNG project. His other political posts have included Minister for Human Services, a Member of Cabinet's Expenditure Review Committee, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Manager of Government Business in the Senate. Mr Campbell is also Chairman of the Princess Margaret Hospital for Children Foundation and a non-executive director of ship builder Austal and Software provider ASG Group.
Dr Justin Walawski
Deputy Chair & Chief Executive - North West Iron Ore Alliance
Justin Walawski was appointed Deputy Chair & Chief Executive of the North West Iron Ore Alliance in November 2008. Prior to taking up the appointment he was Chief Executive of the Association of Mining & Exploration Companies (AMEC) over a 4 year period when its membership almost trebled and significant positive policy change at both Federal and State levels benefited the mining and exploration industry.
Dr Walawski has previously held positions as the Director of CPA Australia (Western Australia), Director of Commerce at the University of Notre Dame Australia and Auditor with Ernst & Whinney, Chartered Accountants. He holds undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral qualifications in accounting, accounting standards and auditor behaviour, is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of CPA Australia. Aside from his role as the NWIOA’s Deputy Chair & Chief Executive, he is a Director of FAB Industries Pty Ltd, a Director of the Institute of Professional Development Pty Ltd and Adjunct Professor at Curtin University’s School of Business.
David FlanaganManaging Director of Atlas Iron Limited
David Flanagan is a geologist with extensive experience in mining operations, exploration and project development in Western Australia, Indonesia and West Africa. He has held senior management roles with Resource Service Group and Gindalbie Gold NL. Whilst with RSG he was seconded to Glencor’s Bogosu operation as Chief Exploration Geologist, and under his leadership the Bogosu exploration team discovered and developed the Chujah deposits totalling 500,000 ounces of gold.
Managing Director of Brockman Resources Limited
Wayne Richards has over 20 years experience in the mining and mineral processing industry, with extensive experience in the development and operation of nickel/cobalt and iron ore businesses. He commenced his career at Queensland Nickel Pty Ltd in 1985 and moved to Western Australia in 1997 as the Refinery Manager of the Murrin Murrin Nickel-Cobalt Project. He has been involved in the design, construction, commissioning and ramp-up of several significant brownfield and greenfield projects within Australia. Mr Richards recently fulfilled senior executive roles within BHP Billiton Iron Ore, and joined Brockman Resources in August 2007.
Mike Amundsen
Managing Director & CEO of FerrAus Limited
Mike Amundsen's extensive business development in the mining industry includes 28 years with BHP Billiton, primarily in the iron ore and coal business groups and in a number of senior roles including finance and marketing. He is a seasoned and experienced senior iron ore executive whose long career with BHP Billiton included nine years based in Perth. Mr Amundsen's last role with BHP Billiton was Vice-President Business Development and Director Business Development (Iron Ore), and played a lead role in the recent US$1.2 billion expansion of Samarco from 2001 to 2007.
